Door Dings - Go Auto Hail Repair Dallas

We often refer a ding as a "door ding". This is because the ding happens mostly to the door. Here is an example of how the dinging occurs; you are at a food store somewhere and the parking space is limited, it forces you to squeeze into the limited space with a slight distance between the vehicles, thus, you park too close to the next car. When the other car owners arrive, they fling their door open in that it makes a small bump to the body of your car and in most cases, your door. The slight bump left behind is what we refer to as a ding. However, what is the difference between a ding and a dent? Therefore, we explain to you meticulously about dings and dents and all that they entail as shown below.

A Ding versus a Dent
Both of them are damages to the car but one of them is more subtle. A ding is less subtle and no chipping occurs to the car paint, only a slight bump without exposing the metal to rust. On the other hand, a dent offers more damage and leaves your panel in disgrace forcing you to do a whole replacement. The chipping of the metalwork is extensive leaving your car exposed to rust and corrosion. Therefore, the vast difference between the two is only the size of the damage. After knowing this difference, we tell you on when to get your car fixed in either of the cases.

When to Fix Dings and Dents
Regardless of minimal or no damage to the paint of your car, you need to do something about it since the ding or dent makes your car look entirely blemished. Although it does not affect the performance of the car, it loses the sense of safety of the car and most of all lower the resale value of the car. The repair is more crucial when you want to lease the vehicle.
Therefore, in case of any ding or dent, ensure you visit an expert at a collision repair shop or if you feel you can go about it yourself, well and good, but keep in mind that you can cause more harm and need to be extra careful.
Below are some tips that can be useful to repair the ding but it may work for all vehicles hence we are not responsible for any undesired outcome.

Home Remedies to Repair a Door Ding

  • Use a Plunger
This method can take out medium to small-sized dings. Take a plunger; sprinkle some water to the area of damage to wet it. Now try to pop up the dinged part with the plunger.
  • A Hair Dryer and Compressed Air
Set the hairdryer at its hottest and heat the dinged part causing the car plastic to expand. Ensure you are careful not to hurt yourself. Once the area is hot to the brim, spray the ding with cold, compressed air. The cold air makes the ding to pop outwards.
  • Dry Ice
In this method, use protective gloves since the ice can be too cold to make you numb. Take some pieces of dry ice and hold against the ding then slide it smoothly to make the part contract. Do this until the dent pops out. It is also wise to heat the area with a hairdryer before doing this process to make the method more efficient.
  • A Bucket and Vacuum Cleaner
This method entails suction to remove the ding. Apart from the vacuum cleaner and bucket or pot, you will also need a tape. Make a tiny hole in the pot conversant with the ding, tape it to the ding to ensure it does not fall especially when you got no one to help. Position the nose of the vacuum cleaner to the hole in the pot and turn on the vacuum cleaner to begin the suction. This should successfully pop out the ding.]

Using Store-Bought Tools
Apart from the above methods, there are also store-bought specifically for this function. We do not recommend any of them but you may want to try some. If you are an online buyer, ensure you read past reviews to ascertain that the tool is efficient for the repairing process.

Coating
If the dent is more or less like a scratch or some simple flakes, you can just paint it but ensure you remove the rust from the dented part before you apply the paint.
However, it should be noted that these home methods may worsen things and can turn out a total failure. It is wise enough to bring the car to a qualified expert in a collision repair shop who will by their knowledge and experience, assess the damage and know how to mend the ding making the place look as if nothing ever occurred. Indeed, it will be more expensive than the plungers and vacuum cleaners but the outcome will totally calm you down and you will surely get the value for your money.
